After visiting the Malacañang of the North, our driver/tour guide took us to St. Augustine Church of Paoay or more popularly known as Paoay Church.

Paoay Church along with San Agustin Church (Manila), Santa Maria Church (Ilocos Sur) and Sto. Tomas de Villanueva (Iloilo) are inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list of Baroque Churches in the Philippines.

One thing I noticed about the churches in Ilocos is that the bell towers were built a few meters away from the church. This was purposely done to protect the church in case the tower collapses. Just like this coral stone bell tower standing just beside the church.

Honestly, this is one of the reason why we wanted to visit Ilocos. We wanted to see how beautiful and grand Paoay Church is. And it did not disappoint.

  1. You're are so right... Paoay Church is soooo GRAND. I feel so little standing in front of it. I have the feeling that it's like when I get to be in front of the gates of Heaven. Hehehe! :-)
